Take your camera everywhere and be ready to go.
Look at everything through the lens that it will make a great photo

Gruyere, Switzerland Let your camera guide your adventures including meeting new people and trying new things.

Paragliding in Austria
River tour on the Seine in Paris Take photos of things you are comfortable with, but also challenge yourself to try new things

Challenge creativity
find comfort Know your gear or seize the opportunity to learn it when traveling. Travel is supposed to be fun, so don't sweat it to much if a photo turns out blurry or overexposed because your camera settings were off. If anyone asks, that is exact what you intended to do.

display at Swarovski Kristallwelten in Austria When traveling (car, plane, train) separate camera parts and pad well.
Bring lots of memory cards. You done want to limit your creative opportunities by running out of space or having to depend on unloading a card often.
If able, change memory cards daily or at least for big/ significant things. I had a card defect and lost photos from a whole excursion except for the few that I downloaded to my phone right after.

Whale watching in Puget Sound from Anacortes, WA, USA Phone cameras are great, but anybody can take a quick shot with their phone. The pause taken when using a really camera creates photos that are less likely to live indefinitely in your phone's photo album.
Have fun. Your feelings will show in your photos.
