Being sick is never fun, but being sick on vacation is even worse.

I planned a small weekend getaway to the mountains. During the trip my intentions were to go to a few local coffee shops to write for this blog and other projects, check out the hotel pools and hot tubs and having a nice dinner out. But as the saying goes, "the best laid plans..."

In the days leading up to the trip I started to feel ill, I'll spare you the details, but I was hoping it was just stress from work that would go away after some time of separation. However, as soon as I arrived to the hotel a few hours drive into the mountains, all I wanted to do was watch a movie until I fell asleep. I scouted out some coffee shops for the next day and did just that.

Fresh air with walks along the river.

Unfortunately, the next day was even worse. Everything hurt. I could not bare walking the short distance down the street to the coffee shop much less the weight of my computer on my lap or the slight movements to type words on a keyboard. Instead my travel buddy went to pick up food and drinks and I set up camp on the hotel room couch to watch Hallmark movies all day between bouts of sleep and glances out the window.

On the final day I had made some improvements despite not sleeping in my own bed and eating food a little different from my usual. So before my departure, I had a small breakfast at café, the first significant meal I had on the trip, and ventured for a short snow-covered walk to visit a famous forest resident.

Being sick on vacation is not ideal, but it happens. When it does there are still ways for make the most of a situation and find little moments of joy or at least contentment along the way.
